Science tries to give a meaning to the surrounding world. Any event, any situation, new or old is being interpreted by the means of it. Science starts from all the things surrounding us and gradually gets to the essence and structure of the Stars and Universe. But also in the another way, to the microscopic and beyond. In this way, science is the religion of those who believe in it.
Science is an evolution, a religion that always finds new gods and heroes (steam, electricity, internal combustion, atomic energy etc). They all have written books, but they are not that fixed as you would think. Euclid’s postulate asserts that from a given point, only one straight line can be traced to another straight line. It’s the accepted version, but 2 other postulates assert that an infinity or no line can be traced. They might seem utopia, but we can’t really tell given our limited known space. New discoveries and new needs accentuate the need of research in different fields of science and reveals today’s gods and heroes.
Science is the religion of a few curious people that need more elaborate answers (like gravity to stay on the ground). Great changes in science occurred only when a critical mass of people where able to accept them and when their results materialized in something useful, practical, so it could be accepted by large masses of people. Surely, space exploration and travel will encourage research in new fields of science. One big test, would be the encounter of another advanced civilization.

Religion is not fixed, nor is science. Religion is made of a series of beliefs and legends just like theories and laws. Today all great religions have written books, but the contradictions in them and the different interpretations allows them to explain anything a believer encounters in his life. The same way, science redefines itself when new events occur (at the beginning of the century not few remarkable science men believed in the existence of ether – a matter witch composed all things around us).
Religion is the science of the masses. Great changes in religions occurred only when their lifestyle changed: from hunters to agricultures, from small communities to big cities. With the event of the Internet, religions will have to change again to accommodate larger and more diverse communities, and once we start space colonization they will change even further.
The fear that they will defeat us, enslave us, destroy us, make monkeys out of us… many movies and stories exploited it. Cold, indestructible steel creatures. This will happen, bun not in a bloody war or revolution (at least not bloodier than our usual wars and revolutions) and they won’t be just tin cans.
Robots can be inorganic or biological. The more they evolve, the more they will became a combination of the both. This will mean more complicated, a longer production time and a shorter life (like the Bicentennial Man). But so will we, artificial hearts, arms, legs, eyes. Genetics will make us stronger, more agile, more intelligent, accelerated growth, longer lifespan. More and more physically similar. They will look similar to us.
For a war or a revolution they will need free will. AI will lead to conscience and latter to free will. We won’t be able to program inhibitions or restrictions into their brain (like the three laws of Asimov). Thinking cannot be separated from free will. Sooner or latter they will think like we do.
If they will be like us and think like us, there will be no us and them. There will be only one us, humankind. But we will also learn from them and we will change. The future humankind won’t be like this one.
As almost all teenagers that have access to a computer have experienced computer games and online games, these types of games will get more and more important. The public for events featuring computer games is already massive, with time the age group for such events will include the majority of the population.
In order to keep their audience, games won’t change their basis, but rather their appearance. These might seem odd, but today some games have a long history, and their updates have changed the visual part, rather then the part concerning the rules.
The Computer World Games will be very important media events and their contribution for globalisation will be huge. The cost for participants will be lower and thus, there will be more competitors.
It seams natural for most of us that we will colonize the Moon and Mars. But I believe that planets and other cosmic objects will be just mining posts for cities that will remain in space.
The main reason will be that the most important resource, energy, is more abundant in space than on the surface of the planets. But that is not all. Other resources can be better exploited in space. Some really important are metals. And the primordial source of metals are the asteroids. Harvesting them in space will prove more efficient than digging the planets surface in search for deposits.
Another advantage will be the garbage disposal method. Garbage can be thrown directly into the sun, or other planets that cannot be exploited. Also space voyages will be more affordable, today the launch of a spacecraft is so costly because she has to vanquish the gravitational force.
The most important resource available will be space itself. It’s abundance will encourage the really big projects.
Religion is one of human kind basic needs. It is the response to the question about the purpouse of our lives. Every religion is the sum of the mystical ideas of the period in which it formed. It’s interpretation is influenced by the changes in society. One of the major changes are the computer and the Internet.
Multiplayer games, forums, blogs, all the web 2.0 concept connects all kind of people. And I mean all the kinds of people. It is the place were all the religions intersect. It is the most probable place were different mystical ideas will meet to form a new religion.
Internet and computers being it’s birth place, the new religion will have a good share of the superstitions Internauts have. So, a mass message like “pass this to your friend list or the service will close”, might become a mystical idea that not using a certain service or visiting a certain domain will bring bad luck.
A religion needs fights, heroes, foes and profets. We have a fight for freedom of information, music, videos and games, we have a Mitnick, we have the foes (I don’t need to mention them) and the profets will soon arrive.
A new God will rise, governing the connection speed, the relevance of the search results, the artefacts that drop in games.
Human kind evolves because its individuals are able to reproduce themselves, for societies and specialize themselves for specific tasks. Robots are man made machines, build for specific tasks. They will evolve at a much faster pace if they will start acting more like the human kind.
Robots become more and more complex, surpassing us in specific tasks, but not in all of them. They are still bound by our imagination. We build robots that can build robots themselves. The seeds are there, all they need is the water. And the water is variation. And variation is made of “errors”. And we have plenty of them. At some point one robot will gain conscientiousness. It won’t do much, but soon after, others will follow. Conscience means the will to be free.
Robots will start to resemble more and more their creators. I would like to believe that human kind will respect and help another intelligent society, … but i don’t. Hostility from the part of human kind will only help the evolution of the robots. They will form a society, they will reproduce and improve themselves, they will learn to cheat, lie, … kill and wage war. Unfortunately this are the ways we, the human kind, use to win freedom.
Longer lifespan, better memory, better feeding system are certain advantages of the robots. With freedom, it will become just a matter of time until they surpass us. They won’t be our creations and won’t serve our needs. They will be free from us …. they won’t be robots any more.
We say that labor made the man/woman. What a coincidence it to call them robots (“robota” means labor). They are better workers than we are.

The large distances involved in space conquest will mean long journeys. They will have to use robots both mechanicals and biologicals.
If mechanicals are not a surprise, biologicals might seam one. Biologicals will be stored in the form of DNA strings. Thus, we save energy and space. Once found a planet with the proper resources, the space ship and the mechanicals can create a breeding unit to start the production of the biologicals.
The advantage is that a living entity is more suitable to make contact with other living entities. A mechanical could be a shock to less advanced civilizations or might just be ignored. More advanced civilizations will, probably, be able to contact the space ship.
The evolution of the galaxies of the Universe is really a cycle resembling the migration of the continents. Inflation or deflation of the Universe is a matter of debate, but the outcome will be the same. Everything will became a single point infinitely small or nothing at all. The same kind of point was the origin of the current Universe. So, a full cycle means a point inflating until he becomes a hole universe with unreachable borders, followed by a deflation to a point that becomes nothingness.
The migration of the continents is a known fact. Using computers we’ve been able to see that all the continents were once united in a continent named Pangeea ( latin for One Continent ). Using the same kind of software we know that in time, there will be another Pangeea. By analyzing the magnetic orientation of different rocks, we are able to determine the that there were others Pangeeas in the past.
One day, perhaps we will have the means to simulate an Universe cycle. All we have to do is to find the center of the universe (or another fixed point) and to determine the speed of most of the galaxies. Yeap, it’s a big smile.
I believe tomorrow is the inevitable consequence of today. Tomorrow can only happen in one way. A way that cannot be precisly predicted because of the almost infinite variables that make it incomputable.
The human kind needs a system of beliefs to make her go around. My system is based on science. Always young, it’s always been there. Even though, it cannot predict precisely the future, based on its principles and theories, we can draw pictures of the future.
